The best USB-C hubs usually exceed the simple need for additional USB-A ports on laptops with few ports. Not only can they bring a range of versatility to the usual suspects (we are looking at you, MacBook Air and Dell XPS 13), but they can also change your desktop settings so you can work (or play) more proficiently . So, what makes the best USB-C hub the best? EZQuest's USB-C Multimedia Center has made an interesting attempt at this problem. This 8-port, travel-friendly USB-C hub is what many laptop users need to expand their device capabilities. It provides a way to interface with three USB-A peripherals, connect to 4K external displays, and transfer files and media. The simple way is through two SD card readers and a stable Internet connection through the Ethernet port-while charging the laptop and providing 100W pass-through power transmission. What else can you want? Well, if you also have an iPad, Android tablet or smart phone, the hub can seamlessly connect with these devices and provide all the functions mentioned above, turning your device into a powerful device. Although the EZQuest USB-C multimedia hub may not be able to provide a 60Hz refresh rate or a newer Thunderbolt 4 connection on an external display, there are plenty of reasons for the device to have a place on your desk. Although the price seems high, especially when compared to Plugable's USB-C 7-in-1 hub, the EZQuest USB-C multimedia hub is an affordable hub. The price on the EZQuest listing page is US$69.99/59.99 GBP. Considering the number of ports and additional features it provides, the hub is reasonably priced. More importantly, other online retailers, including transactions on Amazon, reduced this price by about $10, making it more valuable. 

Compared with the $109.99 price tag of the Kensington SD1650P USB-C 4K portable docking station, the price of the multimedia hub is nearly half lower, while still providing the same feature set. Plugable's affordable USB-C hub costs about $30, but it doesn't provide reliable pass-through power like EZQuest. In general, this is a reasonable price, and it will only get better when it is discounted. 

Inspired by Apple and many other USB-C hub manufacturers (such as Plugable and Kensington), the EZQuest USB-C multimedia hub features a stylish space gray design and anodized aluminum finish to stimulate the interest of MacBook users. Hubs are as standard as they are, which is not a drawback, as its compact design cleverly fits any polished work setting. 

The only real boom that distinguishes hubs from other hubs is the LED indicators that light up when setting up a Gigabit Ethernet network connection. In addition, there are some small symbols showing the location of each port, and a convenient 10-inch USB-C input cable with an "EZQuest" logo along the stem. It is the simplest, which makes setting up the device not complicated, so users can easily plug and play. However, USB-C hubs are not celebrated for their fashion statement. If they work properly, you don't have to worry about some minor scratches.

This USB-C hub weighs 3 ounces (85 grams) and measures 4.1 x 2 x 0.5 inches (105 x 52 x 13 mm). It is currently one of the smallest and lightest USB-C hubs, even with the Plugable 7 The same is true compared to an inch hub 1 USB-C hub (2.4 ounces, 9.5 x 1.9 x 0.5 inches) and Kensington SD1650P USB-C 4K portable docking station (2.8 ounces, 5.0 x 2.1 x 0.6 inches). The hub is compatible with MacBooks, Chromebooks, Dell XPS laptops, iPads, and Android tablets—the list goes on. The hub is officially available for Mac OS X v10.13.6 and higher, Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 and higher, Chrome OS 46.0.2490.82 and higher, and Android 7.0 and higher. Every device I throw at it works like a charm. When I tested it on ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 (2021) and Lenovo ThinkPad, the portable docking station worked very efficiently. Then I connected my wireless Razer Naga Pro mouse and Corsair K65 RGB Mini keyboard, and both worked seamlessly while the laptop was charging and connected to an external monitor. I also transferred files from my smartphone to my laptop without any problems.

To test the compatibility of the hub on the tablet, I plugged in iPad Air (2020) and Mi Pad 5. Very similar to Kensington’s portable docking station, I can use the mouse and keyboard on the tablet thanks to the dual USB-A ports. I also connected them to an external display via HDMI while the device is charging. Keep in mind that Kensington's equipment prices are also almost twice the price of EZQuest hubs, so the latter can be said to provide better value. Thunderbolt 4 is the next-generation connection technology that provides higher transfer rates and can support resolutions up to 8K at a refresh rate of 60Hz, so I hope that the hub can be a higher level than Thunderbolt 3. Despite this, there are still not many devices that take full advantage of the powerful features of Thunderbolt 4 (yet), and it is not essential for a USB-C hub that already provides enough additional ports and power for multiple devices. One disadvantage of this eight-port hub is that it only provides 4K resolution at 30Hz instead of boosting it to 60Hz. This is not a problem for professionals who mainly use external monitors for work that does not require editing multimedia materials or requires higher refresh rates, but it is also the use of more powerful (and more expensive) docking stations. 

As far as USB-C hubs are concerned, EZQuest multimedia hubs are the best. With competitive prices, all suitable ports for managing additional PC peripherals and storage devices, additional 100W pass-through power supply, and compatibility with almost all platforms, this stylish and travel-friendly hub will get the job done. Although it does not support 60Hz and Thunderbolt 4 connections on external displays, making it a more suitable device for professionals and casual consumers, it still offers incredible versatility that any laptop user can take advantage of .
